Everywhere you look in life there are negatives. They can be people, places, events, ideas, etc. Because of our nature, we are drawn to these things and with the help of the media and our friends to spread the word we are able to surround ourselves with negatives. Negative things are inevitable, if something negative has never happened to you then you must be very lucky. For the rest of us that do not have flawless lives we must learn not to consume ourselves with negatives.
What we must do is learn to enjoy the positive things in life that bring us true joy. You must be wondering: how can I be happy?... People are always looking for the answer to that question and are looking all around for the answer. The real answer can't come from anywhere else but yourself. Each person as an individual must look inside themselves to find out what makes them happy.
I am going to share an exercise with you that I use so that you can start to take a look at yourself to begin to see what you have now that really makes you happy. I call it the Five Positive Things exercise.
What you do is simple:
1) First, copy the phrase: 5 things I am truly grateful for each day...
2) Go to where you post a comment and paste the phrase.
3) The last step is to simply write down five things in your life that you are grateful for and that you appreciate having. (Make sure to number each thing).
4) Post your comment so that the whole world can see what great in your life! (I did the first one so that you can see what it looks like).
This is a very simple exercise and you may think that it is a waste of time but I assure you that if you take it seriously and sit down and take your time thinking about 5 things that you are really grateful for you will be feeling better already. Even though this is simple it doesn't mean quick. It probably will not take you 5 seconds to finish if you are taking it seriously and putting thought into your answers.
Using this exercise is a good basis for learning about what you really love in your life right now and make you think about how great your life is currently. You should do this exercise monthly, weekly, daily or anytime you just need a pick-me-up to remind yourself about what is so great about your life right now. Work it into your schedule, it will be a refreshing break from everything else. Feel free to come back and complete the exercise here each time so you can see what everyone else is grateful for. Don't be shy checking back and reading what everyone else writes because something someone else writes might be something you are thankful for and never truly appreciated it.
Good luck and enjoy being happy.
